Winter madness

Raleigh snow was once again in the national news.  We keep saying that snow here is rare, but during times like this, it seems like it happens too often.  Can we please go back to when it snowed for a few minutes and melted on contact?  Once every few years? Pretty please?  If you haven’t seen the picture of the car that spontaneously burst into flame – this is an actual photo that someone took with their cell phone.  The Bumble made a cameo appearance courtesy of someone who’s talented with PhotoShop.  I would like to give credit to that person, but I don’t know where this photo originated as it was forwarded to me.  FebSnowstorm

What Does The Fox Say when he sends a Hand Stamped Card?

That crazy, silly song What Does The Fox Say? keeps bouncing around in my head, so I used it as my inspiration for today’s hand stamped card.  I used a photo of a red fox as my coloring guide.

What Does The Fox Say inspired hand stamped card created by

I first stamped the fox from the Life in the Forest stamp set onto Cajun Craze CS, then used a blender pen and sponge dauber to add shading and cut him out using my trusty Paper Snips.  Paper Snips are the perfect tool for cutting into small areas and tight corners.  I stamped him again onto Whisper White CS and cut out the white parts to glue onto my Cajun Craze fox.  For the trees, I first stamped them onto Whisper White CS and then made a reverse mask.  Then I used Garden Green ink and stamped through the mask using the large oval stamp from the Oh, Hello stamp set.  Shading was added with a blender pen.  The white panel with the trees is just 3″ wide so that the raccoon and hedgehog can peek out.  I think they’re trying to be sneaky.  The mushrooms were stamped onto Whisper White CS, colored and then cut out.  I always use Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive because the small tip and a very gentle squeeze allows me to add adhesive to small areas such as the fox’s legs and ears and I just scribble it over the back of the layer for a good strong hold.  Just remember to scribble thin lines of glue and don’t get too close to the edges of your layer.

Supplies used:

Stamps: WM 133848 , CM 133851 Life in the Forest, WM  131931, CM 130733 Oh, Hello

Ink: 126980 Basic Black, 126965 Cajun Craze, 126973 Garden Green, 126978 Soft Suede, 126974 Early Espresso, 126948 Melon Mambo, 126945 Pumpkin Pie

Card Stock (CS): 119684 Cajun Craze, 102584 Garden Green, 100730 Whisper White

Accessories: 102892 Sponge Daubers, 102845 Blender Pen,  110755 Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive,  103597 Paper Snips

What sorts of cards have you been inspired to create after hearing What Does The Fox Say?

9/11 Never forget this day

Today marks the 12th anniversary of one of the five deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S History.  It’s hard to believe it was 12 years ago already.  I remember standing frozen in front of the television watching the horror and having a hard time believing that such a thing was possible.  I remember having a hard time leaving the house that day, but it was my regular day to volunteer at the Wake County Women’s Shelter and I felt an obligation to go in as usual.  We did get work accomplished but the only conversations were about the attacks and how unbelievable it was.  How could this be happening?  It was just inconceivable that anyone could plan such evil on innocent citizens.  I still have a hard time understanding how human beings can carry out such evil deeds.  Please remember this day and especially the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were needlessly taken.  All the mothers and fathers who lost sons, daughters or grandchildren.  All the husbands and wives who lost spouses.  All the children who lost a parent or grandparent.  All the thousands who lost a friend or loved one.  There is no reasonable explanation or excuse, but it happened.

Undefined Stamp Carving Kit – anyone can do it!

Have you tried your hand at carving your own custom stamp yet?  It’s easier than you think and so much fun!  I actually find it relaxing.  I started carving stamps over 10 years ago and I still love doing it.  My 20 year old nephew has been visiting and I asked him if he’d like to give it a try.  I showed him how to use the tools and how to transfer a pencil drawing onto the carving block.  Then I left him alone.  I think he did great and he had never done it before.Undefined Stamp Carving Kit

The “M H” stamp are his initials and the “Marshall” is a stylized font that he designed.  The mustaches are a gift he plans to give to someone.  (I’m keeping it a secret!)  Then I mounted his 2 stamps on wood blocks and put them in one of our Half Wood Mount Cases.  The label on the case was designed in My Digital Studio and then stamped with his stamps.Half Wood Mount Stamp Case with Undefined Carved Stamps inside   Undefined stamp used as a tattoo

He told me to stamp his arm and we made a temporary tattoo.  How fun would that be at a birthday party?  Oh yeah!  Lots of ideas are popping into my head now!  Marshall carving a stamp using the Undefined Stamp Carving Kit

Here’s  the “Marsh-Man” hard at work.  So now you know!  It really is easy and fun to carve your own stamps.  Aren’t you ready to give it a try? 133402 Undefined Stamp Carving Kit: what's included

Best of Halloween Flip Card

Wow!  What a day!  There was a huge storm last night and it knocked out our modem, so I haven’t been able to get online till just now.  After buying a new modem, I was on the phone with the cable company for over 50 minutes while they made the switch from the old registration to the new one!  Really?  50+ minutes? Oh well, what can ya do?  I decided today would be a good day to show you a fun flip card I made using the new Circle Card Thinlits Die.

Best of Halloween Circle Thinlit Card1

Above, you can see the front of the card with the owl in the tree.

Best of Halloween stamp set & Circle Thinlit Flip Card 2 And here’s what it looks like when it’s flipped open.  Now you see the spooky house and the “Trick or Treat!”  I sponged it here and there to give it a darker, more gloomy look.  I used one of the framelits dies from the Circles Collection because I couldn’t see using the scallop circle that came with the Circle Card Thinlit set for this particular card.  How do you like it?
