How to make Shimmer Paint Mist

Did you know that you can make your own Shimmer Mist using our Shimmer Paint?  It's easy and just one of the things you can use our versatile Shimmer Paint for!

Shimmer Paint MIst  Here's a chart I made showing just a few of our card stock colors sprayed with the Shimmer Paint Mist I made using the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  Click picture to enlarge.

Here's how:
Fill a small spray bottle approx. 3/4 full of rubbing alcohol.  (I used 91% isopropyl alcohol also called rubbing alcohol available in groc. stores, drug stores & large discount stores) Take the jar of Shimmer Paint and shake very well.  Remove cover and pour a few drops of paint into the spray bottle.  Close the alcohol and set aside.  Close the spray bottle and shake well.  You'll see the shimmery liquid swirling inside!  Spray onto your card stock.  If it doesn't have enough shimmer, you can add more paint to the bottle.  Just remember that you will have to shake it frequently during use as the glitter settles quickly.  This also works with the Frost White and Platinum Shimmer Paint.  You could even put a drop of ink from a bottle of ink refill into it if you want your Shimmer Mist to add color as well as shimmer.  You can find empty spray bottles many places, including Wal-Mart, Target and other large discount stores.  Look in the area that has the sample-size or travel-size items.  There are many different types & brands, this is what I found in my local store:

IGo Fingertip SprayerYou might want to make labels to stick on the bottles so you remember which color you have in which bottle.

If making your own doesn't appeal to you, we also carry Smooch Spritz in 4 colors which is ready to use.  Just shake & spray!

I was looking for a travel bottle/mister to use for water and/or alcohol with my Big Shot (is supposed to make the embossing more defined). The first thing I bought only put out a stream. After checking various bottles, I ended up and bought cheap air spray hair spray. At this time I have not emptied the hairspray out of it because hairspray contains a lot of alcohol. I’m going to try the hairspray for my liquid need and see what happens. Some of you might do as well to buy the cheap hair spray for the container.

Trish, Have you actually done this? If so, how did it work? I don’t think I’d like the smell of hairspray on my card. It could also make it sticky. I don’t think I’d recommend doing this. The trick to the empty bottles is to get ones with a fingertip spray and not a trigger spray. This kind shown in the photo above. I haven’t had any fingertip spray bottles squirt out a stream vs. spray a nice mist. If you can’t find the type of bottle you need, another option would be to buy an extra spray bottle of Stampin’ Mist and after you’ve used it, rinse it out and use it for your Shimmer Mist.
